Solo Leveling

Solo Leveling, which is also translated as The Only I to Level Up (Korean The word “na” is the Korean equivalent of honjaman rebeleob (RR Na Honjaman Rebeleop) is an South Korean web novel written by Chugong. It was serialized on Kakao‘s online comics and novels platform KakaoPage starting on July 25 in 2016 and then was fully published on the label of D&C Media under their Papyrus label on November 4 the 4th of November, 2016. The novel was granted a license for publication in English from Yen Press

A webtoon version to Solo Leveling was first serialized in KakaoPage on March 4, 2018. the illustrations were drawn by Jang Sung-rak (aka Dubu), the director at Redice Studio, who died on the 23rd of July 2022, suffering from cerebral hemorrhage. The webtoon’s initial season ended at the end of March, 2020 and the second season started on the 1st of August and ended on December 2021, with its chapter 179. Each chapter has been taken in a book was published in the form of D&C Media into seven volumes at the time of February 2023.  The webtoon is granted a license for use in English from Yen Press.

A role-playing game for video games is currently in development at Netmarble. An anime TV series adaptation developed by A-1 Pictures is set to debut in January 2024. An Korean Drama adaptation of the game is currently in development, along with a an online webtoon spinoff solo leveling Ragnarok will debut in 2024. 

Solo Leveling Synopsis

In a world in which hunter-type warriors — those with supernatural powershave to fight deadly beasts to keep mankind safe from death, a weak hunter named Sung Jinwoo is in a never-ending battle to survive. After narrowly surviving an incredibly strong double dungeon that almost eliminates his entire group the System, a mysterious program the System selects him as its sole participant and, in his turn, gives him the uncommon ability to increase in strength and turn any person killed into a faithful minion known as Shadow. Jinwoo is then set out on an adventure to fight against every kind of enemy that are both monsters and human and discovers the secrets of deep dungeons and discover the real reason for his power.

Solo Leveling Anime Details

The first anime adaptation for a television show was revealed in the course of Anime Expo 2022. The production will be handled with the help of A-1 Pictures and directed by Shunsuke Nakashige. Noboru Kimura writing scripts. Tomoko Sudo illustrating the character and Hiroyuki Sawano writing the music. The show was initially scheduled for 2023, however, it was delayed.The show will debut the 7th of January, 2024 at Tokyo MX and other networks. The network Crunchyroll will broadcast the show beginning Jan 6, 2024 across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and India. The first episode will be screened in the month of December in Tokyo, Seoul, Los Angeles, India, and Europe.

The theme that opens the show the opening track is “Level” by Sawano and Tomorrow X Together, while the final theme”Request” is by “Request” by Krage. Crunchyroll licensed the show outside of Asia. Medialink licensed the show in Asia.

Solo Leveling Episode 1 – I’m Used to It

Ten years ago. Passages called “gates” that connect another dimension and this world have appeared, and people who fight the monsters lurking on the other side of the gates are called “hunters.”

Hunters are ranked according to the amount of magical power they have when awakened, and Shun Mizushino was said to be the weakest among the lowest E-class.

One day, Shun participated in a dungeon. After clearing the dungeon, there was another entrance at the back.

Solo Leveling Episode 2 – If I Had One More Chance

Shun and his friends were conquering a low-level dungeon, but when they went deeper, they found themselves in a temple dungeon they had never seen before. There, three rules and a monster that exceeded fear and bordered on despair awaited them.

Shun and his friends are helpless as they watch their friends die one after another at the hands of monsters shaped like god statues.

Solo Leveling Episode 3 – It’s Like a Game

Shun remains alone in the temple dungeon in order to save his few surviving companions.

I was supposed to have died from the sword swung down by the god-like monster, but when I woke up, I woke up in a hospital bed.

The limbs that he thought he lost in the dungeon are back to normal, and while Shun is unable to accept the situation, a “window” that only he can see appears.

Solo Leveling: Ragnarok

Then, in April of 2023 Kakao released the sequel Solo Leveling Ragnarok. The web-based novel was made available through KakaoPage on April 10th, 2023. A webtoon adaptation is expected to be released in 2024.

The story unfolds following what happened in the Solo Leveling and the story behind it serves as an introduction. Sung Su-ho is the son of Sung Jing-woo’s and Cha Hae-in, was born with his father’s powers, as the Shadow Monarch. But his memories and powers were locked when he was a kid which allowed him to lead an ordinary life. However, when Gates started opening in the vicinity of Earth in the third year of his college Su-ho was chosen to be an actor in the System. Thus, Su-ho has to transform into an Hunter to fight the threat of a new type connected to the disappearance of his parents. 

The web-based novel was written by Daul who was replaced by Chugong who was the author of Solo Leveling. Solo Leveling web-based novel. Chugong said he made the decision to stand with Daul by saying that he felt the same emotions that as he did when he first started serializing the web-based novel. The initial 105 chapters launched in the KakaoPage website KakaoPage the 10th of April 2023.
