Summary
The black sword suddenly spoke to me, startling me enough to drop it on the ground. The storekeeper, engaged in negotiations with other customers, shot me a disapproving look. It was as if he were silently urging me to leave if I had no intention of making a purchase.
Confused by the sword’s unexpected communication, I speculated that it might have used my [Mind Reading] skill as a means to convey its thoughts. The sword, named Greed, seemed to have its own intentions and a unique way of speaking.
Curious about its abilities, I attempted to appraise it using my [Appraisal] skill, but to my surprise, I could only gather limited information. The sword, categorized as a one-handed sword in its Greed Form, revealed minimal details compared to other weapons.
Despite its neglected appearance and the fact that it had been treated as discarded scraps, I felt an odd connection to the sword. Recalling the voice that pleaded, “Please buy me,” I decided to purchase it, sensing a certain affinity.
Upon completing the transaction, I wiped off the dirt and grime from the sword with a rag cloth. The sword, now cleaner but still showing signs of neglect, began speaking again, expressing a sense of pride and curiosity about my decision to buy it.
Introducing myself as Fate Graphite, I embarked on a journey with Greed, my newfound companion. We headed towards the southern gate of the kingdom, where a Goblin Prairie awaited—a suitable hunting ground for beginner warriors like myself.
As we approached the gate, I noticed a gathering of well-equipped individuals forming parties for monster hunting. Feeling a pang of loneliness, I expressed my longing for a comrade, only to be reminded by Greed that I had its company.
Undeterred, I approached a fellow warrior who seemed to be in need of a partner. Excited about the prospect of joining a party, I revealed my level 1 status, only to be met with disappointment as the warrior abruptly found an excuse to leave.
Downcast, Greed advised me to conceal my abilities, emphasizing the need to keep certain skills, like Glutton, a secret. Recognizing the challenges of gaining acceptance among other warriors, I resigned myself to solo monster hunting for the time being.
With the goal of gaining strength and avoiding potential threats, I set my sights on goblin hunting, accompanied by the talking sword, Greed.
