Adapted from the light novels by Hasekura Isuna and Ju Ayakura, “Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf” is helmed by chief director Takeo Takahashi and directed by Hijiri Sanpei (known for assistant directing in “Maoyu”) at studio Passione. Ami Koshimizu and Jun Fukuyama return to voice their respective roles as Holo and Lawrence from the original 2008 anime.
Crunchyroll will be streaming the new series concurrently with its broadcast in Japan. Their synopsis outlines the story:
“Lawrence, a wandering merchant peddling various wares from his horse-drawn cart, encounters a striking girl possessing animal ears and tail in a village. This girl introduces herself as Holo the Wisewolf, credited for bringing plentiful harvests to the region. Yearning to return to her homeland, Holo accepts Lawrence’s offer to accompany him. Thus begins the journey northward for the once solitary merchant and the once solitary wisewolf.”
